Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus

Background

As a supporter of the National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS), you know very well the crisis facing the System these days. Funding shortages are forcing refuges to take drastic steps to try to fulfill their overall goals and mission.

What has been lacking is a strong and dedicated group of lawmakers working consistently to improve the quality of this amazing system of wild lands and champion refuges in Congress.

But this is lacking no more! We are pleased to announce long-time refuge supporters Ron Kind (D-WI) and Jim Saxton (R-NJ), along with Michael Castle (R-DE) and Mike Thompson (D-CA), are leading a bipartisan charge in the U.S. House of Representatives in launching the first-ever Wildlife Refuge Caucus!

This groundbreaking caucus is working inside Capitol Hill to advance issues important to our National Wildlife Refuge System.

The purpose of the Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus is to help:
- Raise awareness of our Refuge System;
- Create a voice for refuges in Congress;
- Support adequate Refuge System budgets;
- Support the six priority activities outlined in the Refuge Improvement Act (hunting, fishing, wildlife photography, wildlife observation, environmental education and interpretation); and
- Support strategic growth of the Refuge System.

On September 14, the NWRA, working with the Cooperative Alliance for Refuge Enhancement (CARE), celebrated the launching of the Caucus on Capitol Hill. On this same day, the Caucus reached 100 members!

We need your help to ensure the Wildlife Refuge Caucus is a continued success! The more members our new Wildlife Refuge Caucus has from both sides of the aisle, the more influential it will be.

Using the Refuge Action Network (RAN), please contact your U.S. Representative today by clicking on the link below and urge them to support our National Wildlife Refuge System and join the Caucus.

Thank you for your support,
NWRA

Join the Wildlife Refuge Caucus

Dear Representative,

I stand with the National Wildlife Refuge Association in urging you to join the new Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus. The Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus is co-chaired by Reps. Jim Saxton and Ron Kind and is vice co-chaired by Reps. Michael Castle and Mike Thompson.

The purpose of the Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus is to help:
- Raise awareness of our Refuge System;
- Create a voice for refuges in Congress;
- Support adequate Refuge System budgets;
- Support the six priority activities outlined in the Refuge Improvement Act (hunting, fishing, wildlife photography, wildlife observation, environmental education and interpretation); and
- Support strategic growth of the Refuge System.

President Theodore Roosevelt established the first national wildlife refuge just over one hundred years ago and the Wildlife Refuge Caucus is committed to honoring this outstanding legacy. Please join Representatives Kind and Saxton, and the more than 100 Caucus members, in the effort to fortify, protect and preserve the National Wildlife Refuge System.

To join or for further information, please contact Mark Lange (202-225-5506) in Mr. Kind's office or Andy Oliver (202-225-4765) with Mr. Saxton.
